Strata is a solo exhibition by Jane Dacruz, an emerging artist (and JAG’s wonderful new Secretary) who has recently moved to Perth from NSW.
Dacruz is a painter in the contemporary realist style and across all mediums, particularly in acrylic, pastel and oil. Her interest is in interpreting and depicting the natural beauty of the Australian landscape in all its moods, and the constantly changing relationship between land, sea and sky. She is a winner of the Ballina Waves and Waterways Art Prize (2013).
Jane relocated to Perth’s northern suburbs in 2015 after successfully completing a Visual Arts degree at Southern Cross University in Lismore, NSW. She has travelled extensively throughout the world and worked in many countries including the UK, USA, Sweden, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. This diversity of experience has given her an appreciation of the uniqueness of the Australian landscape, which continues to be a great source of inspiration.
Her current practice involves painting from photographs taken while exploring the beautiful coastline of Western Australia. Strata is her debut solo exhibition where she uses a symphony of colours to explore the differing levels of strata in the landscape, from the vibrant sky to the depth of the ocean blue.
